This depends entirely on the size of your household. If you’re cooking for one to two people, then anything from 1.4l upwards should be just fine. For families of four to five, we’d suggest nothing smaller than 4l. If you cook for a crowd regularly or are seriously into batch cooking, then we’d suggest a 6-7l multi cooker.
Pressure and multi cookers
The best multi cookers give you the freedom to cook a vast variety of meals all from the same pot. They’re incredibly easy to use and, if you have to work in a small kitchen, give you the freedom to experiment without requiring multiple appliances. Multi cookers are often seen as a jack-of-all-trades appliance. While that’s still true to some extent, nowadays many of the best multi cookers are highly capable in their own right. Some even specialise in certain cooking methods, which is great if you have a preference towards one type of meal.
If healthy cooking is on your list of must-haves, a multi cooker with an air frying function may come in handy. The Ninja Foodi does just that, as well as all of the usual functions, so you can make stews, soups, pressure-cooked meats and crispy chips all with the same appliance.
When it comes to multi cookers, pricier certainly doesn’t always equal better. Though many of them have the same basic functions, these appliances can be quite varied at times, so we’d suggest deciding what you need the most (slow cooking, air frying, pressure cooking) and choosing a model that excels in that area.
Air fryers
One of Ron Upfields best sellers in the air fryer department this past year has been the Ninja duel zone air fryer and for good reason. With its great amount of space and power it makes family cooking much easier.
You can cook two different foods in two different ways (pick from six functions including the ability to bake) at the same time, and then sync them up to finish at the exact right moment so that everything will arrive at the table still hot. What that allows you to do in reality is to experiment with a range of different food types at home that you might not have even imagined yet, such as dehydrated fruit snacks or a lemon drizzle cake.
Operating like a small countertop oven, an air fryer uses convection (hot air) heating to cook food, ensuring that the maximum amount of surface area possible comes into contact with heat and oil. Air fryers have become so popular due to the fact they’re generally faster, more energy efficient and use much less oil than a standard oven. Needing just a dash or spray of oil (though you don’t have to use any if you don't want to), air fryers utilise a process called the Maillard reaction, which allows them to achieve brilliant crispy results while using much less fat. Ninja air fryers typically have an operating range of between 40˚C and 210˚C. The lower temperatures are used for dehydrating on certain models, while the higher ones are reserved for classic air frying, roasting and baking. Models with the brand’s Max Crisp setting can even exceed the standard air frying temperature range, hitting highs of 240˚C.
With a Speedi 10-in-1 Rapid Cooker, one pot does the lot. Whether you want to slow-cook a curry, roast a chicken, or layer mains and sides to create a one-pot meal, the ON400UK from Ninja has you covered. Choose from its 10 functions and transform your ingredients into multi-textured dishes in just 15 minutes. Featuring a Rapid Cooking System which combines steam and convection heat, you’ll get fluffy grains, tender vegetables, and juicy protein all at once. The steam infuses food with moisture while convection air crisps and caramelises, creating 3-part meals everyone will enjoy.
As touched on previously, air fryers use convection heat, much like a fan oven, but they have plenty of qualities that set them apart. The most obvious difference is their size – air fryers are a countertop appliance and therefore, have a smaller capacity than a traditional oven. This compact size, combined with a powerful heat source and fan, means they can cook food much faster than a traditional oven, often with more even results. Additionally, many air fryers require little-to-no preheating time, making them a convenient way to speed up meal prep, particularly for busy families.
When most people think of air fryers, the first things that spring to mind are chips and fried chicken, but air fryers are so much more versatile than that. You can use an air fryer to cook most of the foods you would usually cook in a deep fat fryer or oven, with the exception of wet battered foods, as they can drip through the holes of the air fryer basket. Vegetables cook brilliantly in an air fryer and come out with a light, crisp texture. Fish and meat also cook well in air fryers, with some models featuring two cooking compartments, so you can cook your meat and vegetables at the same time, without them touching.
Depending on which Ninja model you purchase,
some Ninja models will allow up to 15 cooking mode types for you to choose from!.
Woodfire electric BBQ grill
There is something truly special about food that has been prepared outdoors, especially if you're using one of the best BBQs. Getting perfect grilled char on vegetables or a delicious smoky flavour in meat usually requires a lot of equipment and patience, but The Ninja Woodfire Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker makes it easy to do both after a simple, plug-in set-up of the machine.
Following up from the sell-out success of its best air fryers, Ninja has proved itself again to be one of our favourite appliance brands, with this BBQ and air fryer hybrid that is compact in size and can cook large meats such as a whole chicken or pork shoulder. Even if you only have a little bit of outdoor space, cooking a barbecue for when friends or family visit has never been easier. Don't forget to also check out Ninjas range of additional extras which include the option to buy a cover, stand, and different blend pellets.
Health grills
The Ninja Foodi Max Pro is a big, beefy tabletop grill designed to make healthy, low-fat cooking easier. And while there’s no end to the number of different health grills you can buy nowadays, many come with limited functionality, making them a less attractive option, particularly if you have limited space.
By contrast, the Foodi Max Pro is an altogether more multi-talented appliance. With seven different cooking modes, interchangeable plates and dishwasher-safe parts, Ninja is hoping to transform the simple tabletop grill into a health-focused multi-cooker.
If you’re looking for a compact air fryer that packs a punch, take a look at the AF180UK from Ninja. Large enough to feed your whole household, it doesn’t take up too much space on your kitchen counter. It has a 6.2L single drawer which holds enough to feed up to four people. Choose from six cooking functions including Roast, Max Crisp, and Bake for a wide range of tasks. The adjustable Crisper Plate offers two ways to cook – use the lower setting to evenly cook and crisp or the higher setting to bake smaller items with bubbling tops. Plus, all removable parts are dishwasher safe and there’s even a recipe guide included in the box.
Make family-sized meals in a flash with seven cooking functions such as Max Crisp, Air Fry, Roast, Reheat, Dehydrate, Bake and Prove. The two 5.2 litre drawers have a versatile FlexDrawer feature, so that if you need to cook something larger you can convert the drawers to a 10.4 litre MegaZone drawer. That’s big enough to fit a 2.3kg roasting joint. The AF500UK uses up to 75% less fat than traditional frying methods and is perfect for cooking fresh and frozen favourites for the whole family to enjoy.
Add this space-saving air fryer from Ninja to your kitchen for effortless mealtimes every day. Thanks to the two stacked drawers and meal racks, you can enjoy evenly cooked food on four layers for complete cooking flexibility. With the capacity to feed up to eight people, you’ll have enough room for family dinners, entertaining guests, and more.
